What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

The process of my style of hypnotherapy is very much a collaboration between us – we work together. As I am a client-centred therapist, your sessions will be tailored to you personally and what comes up in a session will determine what we do and how we do it. (there is no right or wrong!) So the following is just a rough guide of what may happen during an average session, to give you an idea of what you may expect.
Your first session will last around 1 hour 45 minutes, this gives us both a chance to chat and get to know each other, for me to explain a little about hypnotherapy and then we can discuss your problem and what we can do about it.
In my warm and cosy therapy room you will get yourself comfortable either by lying down or sitting, covered with a blanket and I will guide you into light hypnosis by talking to you (no swinging watches or wacky music!). You will remain in complete control throughout the session. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis – I am just your guide.
Once you are nice and relaxed and in hypnosis we will do an assurance procedure (using just your arms) This shows you that you are under hypnosis and can respond to my positive suggestions and make real changes.
By this time, you will probably find yourself enjoying this very relaxing experience.
We then go on to use a technique to communicate directly with your subconscious mind to find out what is going on and how best to deal with your problem.
I will then choose a method to help you start feeling better straight away.
The sessions ends with some clinical hypnosis full of positive suggestion which you will then get via email to listen to at home to further reinforce your therapy.
At the end of the session most people report feeling like they have had a full nights sleep. Another word I hear a lot is “weird”! Weird, but in a good way!
Again we will begin with a chat about how you are doing and what positive changes you have noticed.
You will find yourself much more at ease this time and your mind will be more familiar with my voice. You will probably go a bit deeper and become even more relaxed.
The same introduction into hypnosis is used each time to help with that familiarity and relaxation.
We then communicate again with the subconscious mind to find out what progress has been made and if there is a root cause that we need to deal with in order to resolve your problem.
You will be talking a little under hypnosis at these sessions and I will be guiding you. Most of the work, however is done in your head privately so you can be free to be honest and express yourself however you wish.
We will then use techniques to find the problem/s, deal with them and then release them for good, cutting any negative ties if required so that you can let go of the past and move forward with your life.
Again we will end with clinical hypnosis and positive suggestions, perhaps also using visualisation exercises for you to use at home.
There is also a self-hypnosis technique that I can teach you that you can use for a mixture of different things including anxiety, fears and controlling eating habits.
I have many different techniques and tools to choose from to help you achieve your goal. Those mentioned are just a selection. The structure of the sessions is very fluid and the methods used will be chosen then and there, as guided by you and your subconscious.
At the end of each session we will discuss what we have done and how you are feeling. We will also talk about what we might do in the next session (if required) and you will then have the opportunity to decide whether you wish to have another session.
There is no obligation to sign up for a certain number of sessions unless you have bought one of the packages and agreed this in advance (eg: hypno-gastric band) It is always your choice.
For chronic pain elimination one session is usually all that is required (although I offer a free follow up if required) Your session can be done in person or just as effectively by Skype/Facetime/Video Messaging.
